WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights released a video today in response to Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination. Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference, highlights the Senate’s duty to put country over party and reject Kavanaugh’s nomination

The video details the threat Kavanaugh poses to American civil and human rights, including access to healthcare, reproductive freedom, and the rights of women, people of color, people with disabilities, and low-income families.

“During his political campaign, Trump bragged that he would only pick justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade and undermine the Affordable Care Act,” Gupta says in the video. “By nominating Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, he made good on that promise.”

Gupta also warns that Kavanaugh believes that the president is above the law. “Kavanaugh has said that no sitting president should face criminal investigation or be subject to a criminal indictment no matter what the evidence of wrongdoing is that exists. That’s a real problem for the rule of law in America.”

The video can be viewed here.

The Leadership Conference, in partnership with more than 100 other organizations, also sent a letter opposing Kavanaugh to the Senate.
