Confirmation of Kavanaugh Protégé Britt Grant Poses Threat to Civil and Human Rights
WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued a statement following the Senate’s 52-46 vote to confirm nominee Britt Grant to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals:
“Ms. Grant’s confirmation continues the Senate Republicans’ packing of our federal courts with Trump loyalists and ideologues. Grant earned a place on Trump’s Supreme Court short list because of her troubling history of challenging voting rights, LGBTQ rights, labor rights, women’s access to health care, environmental protections, and gun safety. She shares these ideological views with Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, for whom she once served as a judicial law clerk. The two also worked together in President Bush’s White House.
“Like Kavanaugh, Britt Grant will not protect civil and human rights for all.”
The Leadership Conference sent the Senate a letter opposing Britt Grant.
