Kavanaugh Sexual Assault Allegations Must Be Investigated, Senate Should Halt Nomination

Courts News 09.18,18

WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued this statement following the Senate Judiciary Committee’s announcement of a hearing this coming Monday on the sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh:

“Senate Republicans’ attempt to rush through Kavanaugh’s confirmation has reached new lows in the wake of sexual assault allegations against him. Before they schedule another hearing, there must be a fair and thorough investigation into these allegations. This investigation must be led by trauma-informed professionals who have the training and experience needed to treat survivors of sexual assault with the respect and privacy they deserve. Senators and their staff are not those professionals. Until this investigation is completed, Kavanaugh’s nomination must be halted.”
