Senate Must Stop Rubberstamping Trump’s Takeover of Federal Courts

WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the Senate’s consideration of 15 lower court judicial nominations without the normal time allotted for debate:

“In recent weeks, people from all corners of our country have risen up and spoken out about how a fair and independent judiciary is essential to protecting our civil and human rights. Yet, today the Senate is jamming through controversial judicial nominees without adequate debate.

“Every single senator should take their responsibility to consider lifetime appointments to our courts more seriously. Turning the Senate into a rubber stamp for Trump’s takeover of our courts is appalling.  Our courts matter far too much to rush this process.”
