Republicans Hold Sham Judicial Nominees Hearing

Courts News 10.17,18

WASHINGTON – Kristine Lucius, executive vice president of policy at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing today on pending judicial nominations:

“Every other Senate committee cancelled their hearings during this recess, but Chairman Grassley is rushing through Trump’s extremist judicial nominees by moving forward with this unprecedented hearing despite members being out of town and unable to attend and question the controversial nominees. Republicans are so eager to remake the federal courts in Trump’s image that they continue to violate Senate traditions, rules, and norms. They are putting party over country and abdicating the independent role the Senate must serve in properly considering lifetime appointments to our courts. For the sake of the country and the Constitution, he must stop these sham hearings.”
