Republicans Continue Sham Judicial Hearings

WASHINGTON – Kristine Lucius, executive vice president of policy at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing today on pending judicial nominations including 9th Circuit nominee Eric Miller:

“Senate Republicans continue attempts to remake the federal judiciary in President Trump’s image while the Senate is out of session and senators are out of town. Chairman Grassley continues his assault on Senate norms by dismissing the advice and consent process, scheduling hearings during recess and before nominees’ American Bar Association ratings are completed, and packing hearings with two circuit court nominees. Mr. Miller’s ideologically extreme record including hostility toward Native American rights demonstrates why his home state senators oppose him, and why the rest of the Senate should do the same.”
