WASHINGTONVanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on President Trump’s intent to nominate William P. Barr as the next Attorney General:

“The Justice Department must strive to achieve justice for all. For the past two years, Department of Justice officials have rolled back civil and human rights. The next Attorney General must uphold the Constitution and recognize and protect the rights of all. Barr’s record raises serious concerns. The Senate’s responsibility is to thoroughly review Barr’s record to ensure he has the necessary independence for the job, including allowing the Special Counsel’s investigation to continue. The Attorney General’s allegiance must be to the Constitution, not the president.”
