WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the confirmation of Paul Matey to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit:
“Republicans will stop at nothing to place their extremist ideologues on the federal bench. Matey’s confirmation is further evidence that Senate Republicans will continue to break from traditions and rules to stack the courts with narrow-minded judges who do not have support from their home-state senators. Matey’s record shows no commitment to protecting the civil and human rights of all people, a fundamental responsibility of federal judges serving a lifetime position. Senators who voted to confirm Matey jeopardize not only the Senate’s constitutional duty to review nominees thoroughly, but also put our rights and liberties at risk.”
