WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the bipartisan House passage of H.R. 7, the Paycheck Fairness Act:

“Equal pay for equal work is an issue of fundamental fairness. But for too many women, and especially women of color, equal pay remains far from reality. The Paycheck Fairness Act is designed to bridge that gender and race pay gap and would help women and their families achieve increased economic security. We applaud the House for passing this bill, which will help prevent the perpetuation of pay discrimination and inequities. The Senate must now act to make real progress on equal pay.”
