WASHINGTON – Kristine Lucius, executive vice president for policy and government affairs at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the Senate’s vote to confirm Andrew Brasher to be a U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of Alabama:

“Andrew Brasher will apply his narrow-minded interpretation of the law to weaponize the federal judiciary — the branch of government that is often the backstop for protecting our civil and human rights. He will inject extremism into the courts by turning his hostile record against voting rights, LGBTQ equality, access to health care, and a fair census, into the law. Senate Republicans rushed to confirm Brasher in the hope that the public will not notice his anti-civil rights record. Senators should protect the courts and the rights of all, not just the powerful and wealthy.”
