WASHINGTON – Kristine Lucius, executive vice president for policy and government affairs at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the Senate’s vote to confirm J. Campbell Barker to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas:

“The Republican race to stack our courts with dangerous judges who will undermine our civil and human rights protections is moving ahead at full steam. J. Campbell Barker is an extreme ideologue who has devoted his young career to restricting voting rights, LGBTQ equality, immigrant rights, reproductive freedom, environmental protections, and fairness in the criminal justice system. The Senate majority’s brazen push to speed through ideologues in the hope that they go unnoticed will harm our civil and human rights for decades.”
