WASHINGTONVanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s proposed rule to amend the agency’s “disparate impact” regulations that provide anti-discrimination protections to people of color, women, and others:

“Yet again, the Trump administration seeks to undermine our civil rights laws and protections. If this proposed rule goes into effect, millions of people in America will be more vulnerable to housing discrimination and will have fewer tools to challenge it. This proposal will make it more difficult for people to own or rent a home and must be stopped.”

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 200 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States.
