WASHINGTON –The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, along with other civil rights groups, today called on President Trump to fire White House advisor Stephen Miller for propagating racist, anti-immigrant sentiments. In their letter, the groups state that white nationalist, anti-immigrant ideology should have no place in government, and “the recent exposure of his [Miller’s] deeply-seated racism provides further proof that he is unfit to serve, and he should immediately leave his post.”

The letter emphasizes Miller’s past actions in the White House as reason to remove him from his post. Miller advocated for policies like the Muslim Ban, family separation, and ending transgender participation in the military, while also calling for ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The groups also connect Miller’s ideology with the rising levels of hate crime in the United States, stating “The heightened anti-immigrant, anti-minority sentiment that echoes throughout the policies of this administration is undoubtedly linked to the alarming rise of hate crimes, which reached their highest level in recorded history in 2018. Stephen Miller’s racist, deadly agenda is contributing to this violence and must be stopped.”

The groups noted: “Stephen Miller represents white supremacy, violent extremism, and hate — all ideologies that are antithetical to the fundamental values that guide our democracy. Allowing him to remain a White House advisor is a betrayal of our national ideals of justice, inclusion, and fairness.” They said to Trump: “Unless and until you fire Stephen Miller — and all who promulgate bigotry — and abandon your administration’s anti-civil rights agenda, you will continue to be responsible for the violence fueled by that hate.”
