WASHINGTON – Lena Zwarensteyn, Fair Courts campaign director at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the confirmation of Lawrence VanDyke to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, Nevada:

“Trump’s insolent effort to reshape the Ninth Circuit continued today with VanDyke’s confirmation. It is hard to imagine how anyone could walk into his courtroom and trust that their case would be handled fairly. VanDyke has focused his entire career on attacking civil rights, including hard-fought recognition of LGBTQ equality, reproductive freedom, environmental protections, immigrant justice, and tribal sovereignty. His own colleagues in the legal community are concerned that he lacks the temperament and competence necessary to be a federal judge.

“VanDyke’s record is disqualifying and he is undeserving of this lifetime appointment.”
