WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the Trump administration’s memorandum on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:
“The administration’s drastic curtailment of the DACA program is a naked political ploy to energize the president’s base and is simply dictatorial. Trump’s determination to tear families apart and take Dreamers away from the only home they know is particularly horrifying in the midst of a global pandemic. This cruel move follows the administration’s loss at the Supreme Court and defies a federal court order to accept new applications – an order issued before the administration released its memorandum.
“Once again, we support all Dreamers who lead with hope and determination to make our country as good as its ideals. Congress must create a fair and just pathway to citizenship by passing H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act. Dreamers are here to stay.”
