WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the alleged forced hysterectomies against immigrant detainees held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities:

“The whistleblower allegations of nonconsensual medical care in immigrant detention facilities in Georgia are abhorrent. ICE must immediately end the forced sterilization of all detainees. Congress must investigate these appalling allegations and immediately pass the Federal Immigrant Release for Safety and Security Together (FIRST) Act to ensure the safety and dignity of immigrants detained in federal custody.”
