WASHINGTON—Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement in response to Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron’s announcement on the grand jury’s findings regarding the police officers who murdered Breonna Taylor in her home earlier this year:

“Breonna Taylor was killed in her home by Louisville Metropolitan police officers barging into her home to execute a search warrant, shooting her and her boyfriend in the process. Today’s decision to charge just one officer with three counts of wanton endangerment is anything but justice.

“We will continue to demand accountability from law enforcement agencies and officers who make such devastating life and death decisions with little concern for the safety and security of the very public they are charged with protecting and serving. We will continue to work to change the laws, practices, and culture of impunity that impedes real police accountability. Attorney General Daniel Cameron must release the grand jury report and show what evidence was presented. Our thoughts are with Breonna’s family and loved ones and all who grapple with the immense painfulness of today’s announcement.
