WASHINGTON – LaShawn Y. Warren, executive vice president of government affairs at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement calling for the removal of Donald Trump from his office:

“President Trump and his followers yesterday incited a white supremacist attack on the U.S. Capitol to overturn the will of the people. They failed — Joe Biden will be the next president. Trump, the rioters, and the people who enabled them must be held accountable for their treasonous acts. Trump must be removed from office immediately, for the good of our nation and our democracy. He abdicated any moral authority to lead our nation long ago.

“While the white nationalism that fueled their actions is not new, this sedition demands that we fight it with renewed determination. Congress must investigate the failures of the U.S. Capitol Police, including tolerance and support for the riot, and take action. Following these chaotic events, we must all work together to tackle the grave challenges that lie before us.”
