The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights Welcomes New Board Vice Chairs and Secretary

WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights this week welcomed Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP, and Farhana Khera, president and executive director of Muslim Advocates, as vice chairs of the organization’s board of directors. The Leadership Conference also welcomed Fatima Goss Graves, president and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center, as secretary of the board.

“Our board of directors serves a pivotal role in our mission, and we are thrilled to welcome Derrick Johnson, Farhana Khera, and Fatima Goss Graves to these crucially important leadership positions,” said Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference. “At a time when we face seemingly unprecedented challenges as a nation, our work to build an America as good as its ideals has never been more important. I have no doubt with Derrick, Farhana, and Fatima on our team, we have a bright future ahead of us.”

Judith L. Lichtman, senior advisor for the National Partnership for Women and Families, will continue to serve as chair of the board. Thomas Saenz, president and general counsel of Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, will continue serving as a vice chair, and Lee Saunders, president of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, will continue serving as treasurer.

Other notable changes include the appointment of David Stacy, government affairs director of the Human Rights Campaign, and Mara Youdelman, managing attorney of the National Health Law Program, as co-chairs of the Policy and Enforcement Committee. Additionally, Rabbi Jonah Dov Pesner, director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, will serve as chair of the Governance Committee.
