WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, March 2, at 12 p.m. ET, Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) and civil rights, law enforcement, and conservative leaders will host a press call urging the Senate to expeditiously confirm Vanita Gupta to serve as the next associate attorney general at the U.S. Department of Justice. The Senate is scheduled to hold a hearing on her nomination on March 9.

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, along with more than 100 organizations, sent the Senate a sign-on letter of support for the confirmation of Gupta. She is a fierce champion of civil rights and has devoted her career to advancing racial and social justice and equality for all. She is well-respected and widely recognized as a consensus builder. If confirmed, she would be the first woman of color to serve in this role.
