WASHINGTONWade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the below statement regarding the shooting of Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota:

“The killing of Daunte Wright is devastating. The continued cycle of death must end. The fact that another Black man is dead at the hands of law enforcement, during the trial of Derek Chauvin and only miles from where George Floyd was murdered, underscores just how urgently transformative change is needed. Congress must pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to end brutal policing and bring about a new vision for justice that reimagines safety, holds law enforcement accountable, and invests in the needs of community members — especially Black and Brown people. We demand a thorough, transparent investigation into the officers’ actions. Our thoughts are with Wright’s loved ones and the entire community during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 220 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States.
