WASHINGTON Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement regarding the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas decision on the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“The sustained attacks on common sense programs like DACA are xenophobic deflections from solving real problems facing our nation. The determination of some Republican Attorneys General, like Texas’ Ken Paxton, to continuously play political games with the lives of Dreamers, including essential workers, is particularly cruel.

“DACA allows young people to pursue educational and career opportunities in the only country they’ve ever known. Judge Hanen’s ruling to partly block DACA endangers the lives and livelihoods of Dreamers and their families. We hope this wrongheaded ruling will be swiftly overturned, and we call on Congress to deliver a lasting solution that protects all immigrants.”

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 220 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States.
