WASHINGTON – Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement on today’s Senate vote to advance the nominations of Myrna Pérez to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Jia Cobb to the U.S. District of Columbia District Court, among others:
“The Senate’s advancement of President Biden’s eminently qualified nominees will help to ensure that the rights of every American are protected. Pérez has dedicated her career to protecting our freedom to vote and strengthening our democracy. Cobb, a former public defender, has demonstrated a deep commitment to equal justice. In addition to bringing much-needed racial and ethnic diversity, Pérez and Cobb, who are both civil rights lawyers, will add valuable life experiences and perspectives that have been severely underrepresented in our courts. The Senate must quickly move to confirm these brilliant nominees.”
