WASHINGTONGaylynn Burroughs, senior policy counsel at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the below statement on the Supreme Court’s failure to block Texas’ extreme 6-week abortion ban, SB8:

“The Supreme Court’s failure to intervene on Texas’ unconscionable and unconstitutional abortion ban is an outrageous disgrace. Allowing politicians, neighbors, and strangers to control personal medical decisions disproportionately harms historically marginalized people, particularly people of color and those living with lower incomes.

“Instead of callously and unlawfully attacking reproductive freedom, our policymakers must promote the health, economic security, and well-being of those who are forced through law and policy to live at the margins, and our highest Court must step in and stop these attacks. We continue to call on Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and the president and Senate to select and confirm fair-minded judges who are committed to our civil and human rights.”
