WASHINGTON Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement on the Senate’s vote to confirm Judge Holly Thomas to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit:

“Judge Thomas encapsulates the Biden administration and Senate majority’s commitment to selecting and confirming judicial nominees with diverse professional backgrounds and significant experience protecting civil rights. Judge Thomas has demonstrated her commitment to equal justice throughout her impressive career as both a fair-minded judge and a civil rights attorney. She would also bring much-needed diversity to the bench as the first Black woman to serve on the Ninth Circuit from California. Judge Thomas’s experience makes her an excellent addition to the Ninth Circuit.”
