WASHINGTON Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement after the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on judicial nominations, including the nomination of Nina Morrison to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York:

“As today’s hearing demonstrated, the nominees for these important lifetime positions possess significant experience and a commitment to equal justice that is greatly needed on our federal courts. We are especially pleased with the nomination of Nina Morrison, who has also dedicated her career to defending the rights of those wrongfully convicted. Her deep understanding of our criminal-legal system and her experience in civil rights law make her an exceptional choice to serve on the federal judiciary. She also would be only the second openly LGBTQ judge ever to serve on the Eastern District of New York. We urge the Senate to quickly move to confirm these nominees.”

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 230 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States.
