The Leadership Conference Statement on the Deadly Shooting in Buffalo
WASHINGTON— Maya Wiley, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights released the following statement on the mass shooting at the Tops Friendly Markets in Buffalo, NY:
“Over the last several years in America, we have witnessed a dramatic increase in white supremacist hate and propaganda. Every day, too many people face the ugly reality of white supremacist hatred and its violence, as demonstrated by today’s horrific shooting. We grieve with the families of the victims and the residents of Buffalo. We also refuse to tolerate this rise in hate that threatens lives and the American ideals of equality and justice. We must all come together to confront anti-Black hatred and white supremacy. We welcome the Department of Justice and FBI’s investigation of this racist hate crime and urge them to hold all perpetrators of white supremacist violence accountable, to ensure that the message is clear: hate has no home here.”
The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 230 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States.
