WASHINGTON – Lena Zwarensteyn, senior director of the fair courts program at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Judge Elizabeth Hanes to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

“Judge Hanes’ experience, including her work as a federal public defender representing clients involved in the criminal-legal system who could not afford an attorney, will be incredibly valuable to her role as a district court judge. Throughout her legal and judicial career, Judge Hanes has shown an ongoing commitment to pursuing equal justice. We applaud the Senate’s confirmation.”
