The Leadership Conference Welcomes Department of Justice Updates to Profiling Guidance, Calls for More Progress

 WASHINGTONJesselyn McCurdy, executive vice president of government affairs at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Justice updates to 2014 profiling guidance:

 “We welcome the long-awaited updates and improvements to the Department of Justice profiling guidance, especially the addition of disability and the expansion of the guidance beyond law enforcement officials to cover those supporting law enforcement and intelligence activities. Our coalition has long called for updated guidance to address glaring loopholes in applicability. These are much needed steps toward eliminating discriminatory profiling, but we are concerned that loopholes regarding national security and intelligence operations, as well as immigration enforcement, remain. We must not cause further harm to the vulnerable communities we’re trying to protect. We look forward to continuing to work with the Department of Justice to end discriminatory profiling by law enforcement and to ensure they follow through where this guidance falls short.”
