Julie Rikelman’s Confirmation Strengthens Our Federal Judiciary

WASHINGTON – Lena Zwarensteyn, senior director of the fair courts program at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Julie Rikelman to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

“Throughout her legal career, Julie Rikelman has worked tirelessly to safeguard our constitutional rights and protections. Her vast experience and legal acumen is greatly needed on our federal courts. Our judiciary is strengthened when it reflects the rich diversity of our country — and Ms. Rikelman’s confirmation is notable as she becomes the first immigrant woman and first Jewish woman to ever sit on the First Circuit. We applaud this administration and Senators Warren and Markey for their leadership, and we thank the Senate for confirming Ms. Rikelman. This is an important step in creating a judiciary that better serves all people in America.”
