WASHINGTON Lena Zwarensteyn, senior director of the fair courts program at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Judge Rita Lin to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California:

“The breadth and depth of Judge Rita Lin’s legal experience make her an excellent addition to the bench in the Northern District of California. Along with her experience as a fair-minded judge on the San Francisco Superior Court, she brings significant experience successfully litigating civil rights cases, including defending disability rights and LGBTQ rights. In addition, Judge Lin becomes the only active AAPI woman on this court — and only the second in the court’s history — and is the first Chinese American woman to ever serve as a district court judge on the Northern District of California. We celebrate this important step toward ensuring that our federal courts work for all of us.”
