WASHINGTON — Liz King, senior director for education equity at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement in advance of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee’s hearing on the nomination of Linda McMahon to serve as Secretary of Education:
“Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and thrive — and a school that will help them do that. When we remove the barriers they face, students from all backgrounds succeed. Tomorrow, Linda McMahon must explain how she would stop the wrecking ball that is aimed at the Department of Education — a civil rights agency — and how she would protect children from the disaster machine of President Trump and unelected Musk. She must explain why our families should be shut out from our schools by funding cuts, unchecked discrimination, or censored curriculum. She must explain how taking support away from children, dollars out of classrooms, research away from educators, and data away from policymakers will help our communities and nation thrive. She must explain why bullies who use laws as weapons — or ignore laws entirely — deserve any access to the keys to our future.
“Tomorrow Linda McMahon must pick a side, and senators must ask her: Is she with us, or is she with Trump, Musk, and those who would take away our futures?”
