The Roberts’ Supreme Court endorsed yet another Trump action that will hurt countless at-risk people.
WASHINGTON — Maya Wiley, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement:
“White South Africans are welcome. Haitians and Syrians are not? Today the United States Supreme Court refused to offer basic administrative safeguards to immigrants that this administration has stereotyped and whose rights it has abused. Enabling this administration to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian immigrants, allowing for people who came to this country for safety and refuge to be persecuted by ICE and returned to dangerous living situations in their countries of origin, is cruel — as is allowing the administration to slam the door shut on asylum seekers. The administration has doubled down on its racist and the xenophobic behavior, and the Court once again has endorsed those worst tendencies. I will not mince words — today’s rulings will endanger countless vulnerable people. The Roberts’ Court and the Trump administration will be remembered for their cruelty and inhumanity. Like with many other harmful rulings, this is an attempt to move us backward. These attacks are trying to make us too scared to fight back. But we are stronger than that, and our fight is not over.”
