The Leadership Conference Responds to Third Circuit Declining to Dismiss U.S. v. McIver

WASHINGTONMaya Wiley, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement:

“The case against Congresswoman McIver is yet another example of the Department of Justice being used as a tool against those who are defending civil rights and ensuring our federal government is accountable. Their weaponization of both our justice system and immigration enforcement threaten our democracy. ICE continues to act with impunity, violently disappearing our family members, friends, and neighbors with the full throated support of the president and his DOJ. Congress was designed as a check on executive power, and Congresswoman McIver was exercising her duty to her constituents to provide oversight and ensure accountability. This case is an attempt to silence a dissenting lawmaker and remove her from office. No matter any court ruling, we will always fight to hold any administration accountable to people, not any one individual.”
