Civil and Human Rights Coalition Welcomes Addition of Senators Booker and Harris to Judiciary Committee

WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the appointment of Senators Cory Booker and Kamala Harris to the Senate Judiciary Committee:

“The Senate Judiciary Committee plays a vital role in the protection of our Constitution and core civil rights, and the shape of the federal judiciary. With the addition of Senators Booker and Harris, the committee is joined by two leaders who are committed to fairness and justice, and we are all the better for their participation. Diversity makes us stronger, and the public is better served when key committees reflect the communities that comprise our nation. We applaud the fact that this is the first time two Black senators are serving on the committee at the same time. It is long overdue as they are only the second and third Black senators to do so. We look forward to continuing to work with all members of the committee as they address the important issues of our time.”
