Dear Representative,

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a coalition of more than 240 national organizations committed to promoting and protecting the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States, urges you to support H.R.7024 – Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024 when it comes up for a vote on the House floor. Although the legislation does not expand the Child Tax Credit (CTC) to the full extent needed, it is a meaningful step toward reducing child poverty, and would help millions of families to afford essentials like food, rent, and child care. Additionally, the legislation would benefit children of all races and ethnicities, including more than 1 in 3 of all Black and Latino children under 17. Policymakers must support this legislation. The Leadership Conference intends to include your position on H.R. 7024 in our voting records for the 118th Congress.

As we explained in a letter sent alongside other civil rights organizations in November, CTC expansion is a proven way to reduce child poverty and improve economic mobility, without meaningfully reducing workforce participation. Census data show that the expanded CTC has been incredibly impactful in addressing the poverty gap for Black and Latino children. Policymakers can make the largest and most lasting impact on child poverty and build a stronger economy overall by permanently expanding the CTC and making it fully refundable and available to families through monthly payments. While this legislation falls short of that impact, it is a significant step in the right direction, and The Leadership Conference supports its passage.

For these reasons, we urge you to vote in support of H.R. 7024. We intend to score this vote in our voting records.
