The Leadership Conference, The Education Fund Announce Development Team Hires

WASHINGTON — The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and its sister organization, The Leadership Conference Education Fund, announced today that Pamela Giller will join the organizations as the vice president of development. The organizations also announced that Andrew Ansel, who previously served as director of institutional giving, was promoted to managing director of development.

Lhamon Will Protect and Advance Students’ Civil Rights

WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, along with 27 civil rights and education organizations, today called on senators to confirm Catherine Lhamon as assistant secretary for civil rights at the U.S. Department of Education. Citing Lhamon’s extensive experience, including serving in the same position during the Obama administration, the groups urged the Senate to swiftly confirm her so that she can get to work enforcing civil rights law to protect all students in our country from discrimination.

Civil Rights Leaders Demand Results in George Floyd Justice in Policing Act Negotiations

We appreciate the efforts of lawmakers leading the negotiations around the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. We were heartened to see the U.S. House of Representatives pass a strong version of the bill last year and again this year. Yet, more than a year after George Floyd was murdered and weeks after a draft bill was circulated, the U.S. Senate still has not agreed on key provisions of the bill. Congress must deliver justice. We collectively demand that Congress honor its commitment to produce a final bill that can pass the House and Senate before the end of June and ensure a strong George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is passed before the August recess.

Henderson to Congress: Voting Restrictions Leave Our Democracy in Peril 

WASHINGTON — Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, will testify today before the Committee on House Administration, Subcommittee on Elections on “Voting in America: A National Perspective on the Right to Vote, Methods of Election, Jurisdictional Boundaries, and Redistricting.” In his testimony, Henderson condemns the attack on voting rights and urges Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to end discriminatory practices against voters, especially from Black and Brown communities.
