WASHINGTON– Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and Angela Glover Blackwell, founder and CEO of PolicyLink, issued the following statement following the Senate’s confirmation of Anthony Foxx to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation:
“We are pleased the Senate took bipartisan action to confirm Anthony Foxx to be the Secretary of Transportation. During his tenure as mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, Foxx demonstrated how a transportation system of highways, light rail, street cars, and buses can drive growth by serving a broad cross-section of city residents and suburban and exurban commuters. His career as a public official has been marked by his ability to integrate local, state, and federal resources to meet critical transportation challenges.
Foxx’s nomination shows how having real world experience in creating jobs and connecting a city through transportation investments can help all people climb ladders of opportunity.
We applaud President Obama for nominating Foxx and the Senate for confirming him to this important position. We look forward to working with the Department of Transportation under his leadership to ensure that everyone, including people of color, people with disabilities, young workers, older adults, and low-income people in both rural and urban America, can participate in planning, improving, and utilizing America’s robust transportation systems.”
