Washington, D.C. – Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm several executive branch nominees, including Tom Perez and Richard Cordray:
“The confirmations of Tom Perez and Richard Cordray will have a real impact on the ability of our nation to protect and promote the welfare of all Americans.
Both are exemplary public servants who have demonstrated throughout their careers that opportunities to live, work, and raise a family should be available to all, regardless of what you look like or how much money you make.
We urge the Senate to quickly consider the new nominees to the National Labor Relations Board and to swiftly provide for up-or-down confirmation votes on the President’s judicial nominations, especially the three outstanding and well-qualified nominees for the D.C. Circuit Court.
This week’s votes on Perez, Cordray, and other executive nominees were long overdue. But we are encouraged by these votes that the Senate is capable of transcending obstruction to diligently fulfill its constitutional duty to fully staff the judicial and executive branches.”
