Civil and Human Rights Coalition Slams Revised Senate Republican Bill to Take Health Care Away from Millions
WASHINGTON— Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the revised Senate Republican legislation that would take health care away from millions of Americans:
“The Senate Republican leadership squandered their opportunity to rewrite their bill so that millions of Americans would continue to benefit from the Affordable Care Act and the expanded Medicaid program. It would make draconian cuts to Medicaid, which provides quality health care to people of color, women, and other low-income families and vital services to people with disabilities and older Americans. And it would still kick millions of people off their health care plans and cause costs to skyrocket for many.
This partisan plan is unconscionable. The American people have already spoken out against this partisan effort to deny them their basic right to health care. We call on Senate Republicans to scrap this plan and work across the aisle to truly make our health care system work better for all.”
