WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the introduction of H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act:
“Since taking office, President Trump and members of his administration have advanced a radical anti-immigrant agenda that even his own party refuses to endorse. Trump and his allies are using those who have been playing by the rules for years in this country as political pawns. Meanwhile, Dreamers and recipients of Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure feel the brunt of these political games. Congress must provide immigrants stability in their lives, and lawmakers can do this without wasting billions on an unnecessary border wall, ripping children away from their parents, or shutting down the federal government. Immigration is a complicated issue, but the Dream and Promise Act is a simple matter of humanity. We urge Congress to pass it with overwhelming support.”
