WASHINGTONVanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the Senate introduction the For the People Act:

“The For the People Act, passed earlier this month in the U.S. House of Representatives, represents a transformative vision of democracy reform in our country. We commend the many Senate champions of this legislation, call for hearings, and urge Majority Leader McConnell to bring it up for a vote. Our elected officials – no matter their party affiliation – are responsible for protecting every eligible person’s ability to participate in our democracy. Passage of this essential legislation, as well as restoration of the Voting Rights Act, are needed to ensure that elections in America are free, fair, and accessible for all.”
