WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement regarding the Trump administration’s Muslim Ban expansion:

“Let’s make this perfectly clear: Trump’s Muslim Ban is not about making our country safe — it’s about hate. And while the president may not refer to this policy as a Muslim Ban, that does not make it any less racist, hateful, or xenophobic. In fact, since Trump took office, hate-filled rhetoric and violence has become commonplace, instigating ongoing harassment and attacks. Our elected officials can no longer ignore the Islamophobia and the rise in hate occurring right in front of them. Congress must pass the No Ban Act immediately — a corrective measure that will prevent Trump and future presidents from discriminating against groups for religious reasons.”
