WASHINGTON – Lena Zwarensteyn, Fair Courts Campaign Director at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement after Mitch McConnell filed cloture on the nomination of Andrew Brasher to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit:

“The Senate just covered up for Trump’s interference in our elections, and then McConnell immediately and shamelessly lined up votes for this impeached president’s judicial nominees. The Senate Republicans’ agenda is actively and appallingly hostile toward voting rights — in both covering up for the president and then quickly turning to confirm one of his most extreme anti-voting rights nominees.

“Andrew Brasher is wholly unfit for this lifetime position. He has defended some of the most hostile laws that restrict voting rights in Alabama and across the country. Senators must start to hold Trump accountable — and rejecting lifetime judges with anti-civil rights records is an easy place to start.”
