WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the bipartisan passage of the “Delivering for America Act”(H.R. 8015) by the House of Representatives:

“We applaud the House for voting to save the U.S. Postal Service – a government institution essential to the functioning of our democracy. The Postal Service delivers medications, paychecks, Social Security benefits, census forms, and ballots – all critically important, especially during a pandemic. As an employer, it has provided ladders of opportunity to many, including veterans and Black workers.

“The Senate must come back into session immediately and vote on legislation to support the vital services provided by USPS and undo the damage done by Trump and his unqualified Postmaster General. This bedrock institution has always been there for us – now we must be there for it.”
