WASHINGTON – Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement ahead of the House votes on the American Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act:

“These incredibly important and comprehensive immigration bills will protect and provide relief to millions, many of whom have only ever known the United States as their home. It is important that Congress work to improve both bills to ensure Black and Brown immigrants, who are disproportionately targeted by the criminal and legal systems, are not excluded from the relief these bills provide. The previous administration’s cruel, relentless assault on immigrant communities makes the passage of these bills ever more urgent and critical.”

Henderson took part in a press conference on Wednesday in support of the bills’ passage. You can listen to that here
