WASHINGTONWade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the below statement on President Biden’s fiscal year 2022 Discretionary Request, which would notably include an increase in funding to federal civil rights offices:

“President Biden’s budget request is an important and refreshing change in course. By seeking to increase funding for civil rights enforcement, President Biden is demonstrating a real commitment to the rights of every individual in this country, especially marginalized communities. We are very encouraged that this conversation has begun, and we continue to call for even further, robust investments in upholding and enforcing civil rights.”

The fiscal year 2022 Discretionary Request starts the annual congressional appropriations process and details the Biden-Harris administration’s priorities for “discretionary funding,” a key part of the federal budget.
