WASHINGTON – Lena Zwarensteyn, Fair Courts campaign senior director at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement in response to President Biden’s creation of a presidential commission to study and issue a report on Supreme Court reform.

“We applaud President Biden for creating this commission to have a much-needed discussion about the Supreme Court and potential reforms. The Supreme Court, like all courts, makes critical decisions impacting people’s lives – from health care to voting rights. We work tirelessly to ensure that everyone who enters a courthouse or is affected by courts’ decisions is treated fairly and has their rights recognized. Unfortunately, for too many people and communities, this is not the case. The commission’s work to explore every avenue for change and ensure the Supreme Court provides more equal justice is vital.”

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 220 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States.
