WASHINGTONWade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement on the Senate’s vote to confirm Jia Cobb to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia:

“We expect our courts to provide equal justice under law, and Jia Cobb, a distinguished civil rights lawyer and public defender, will be a tremendous asset to the federal judiciary. Her lived experience will also bring important perspectives to the bench, as Black women have been historically excluded from serving in our judiciary. Judges with diverse backgrounds and professional experiences help improve judicial decision-making and increase public trust in courts, and Cobb brings these meaningful perspectives to the federal bench.”
