WASHINGTONLena Zwarensteyn, senior director of the fair courts program at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement after the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the nomination of Roopali Desai to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit:

“Roopali Desai possesses the kind of extensive experience in civil rights law, including protecting our freedom to vote and the integrity of our democracy, that we need on our federal courts. Ms. Desai would also make history and bring new, underrepresented perspectives to the Ninth Circuit as its first South Asian judge. People across America need a judiciary that lives up to its promise of equal justice for all. We urge the Senate to quickly confirm Desai and move our judiciary one step closer to this promise.”
